Our promise
Growing Through Words is built for families. We collect as little as possible, we never sell family data, and we never show third party advertising to children.
What we collect
If you create a family account we store your email address, an optional display name and your subscription status. When you are signed in we also back up your in app activity: child profile nicknames and emojis, goals, completed activities, stories and books read, streaks, badges, milestones and parent journal entries.
What stays on your device
Voice recordings made in Practice Recording never leave your device. They are stored in your browser's local storage and you can delete them at any time. If you use Growing Through Words without an account, everything stays on the device you are using.
Information we don't ask families to provide
We do not ask families to provide a child's full legal name, birth date, home address, photo, school or personal contact details. When you create a child profile, please use a nickname, initials or first name only. Do not enter your child's full legal name. We do not use behavioral advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Technical information processed automatically
The service providers we use to operate Growing Through Words, such as hosting, authentication and database providers, may automatically process limited technical information needed to run and secure the service, including IP address, browser or device information, and cookies or similar technical identifiers. We use this only to keep the app working and secure, never to build advertising profiles.
Custom activities and AI
Activity prompts are sent to our AI service provider solely to generate the requested activity. Parents should not enter a child's full name, address, school, health information or other identifying information into Activity Creator.
Service providers
We use trusted providers for hosting, database storage, authentication, AI generation and payment processing. They process data only to provide the service to us and are bound by confidentiality obligations. Payments are securely processed by a third party payment provider; Growing Through Words does not directly store your complete payment card information.
Your choices
You can view, export, correct or delete your family's data at any time from the Family Account page or by emailing hello@growingthroughwords.app. Deleting your account removes or anonymizes your family profile and activity data, except information we are required to retain for legal, accounting, security or fraud prevention purposes.
Data retention and security
We keep account data for as long as your account is open. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and access is limited by per family security rules so no other family can read your data.
